Read 2,845 timesCartomancer Who is your favorite fictional vampire?
This subject has been raised many times in this main forum- but it's been so many years since the last one, it's time to revisit and discuss with new members and old who may have new thoughts since they've last discussed.
Of all the stories that have been told- what fictional vampire stands out to you as a favorite? For me, the last more than a decade leads me back to Mick St. John of the TV series Moonlight as well as Julian from Kindred: The Embraced. Moonlight being a casualty of having been a new show in it's first season when a writer's strike was going on, and Kindred ending due to the untimely death of lead actor Mark Frankel. Without getting the full storylines I hoped to absorb with these shows- I am left to wonder what could have been. I still rewatch them pretty often. Maybe I should tackle them with some fan-fiction.
Tell us which fictional vampires have been your favorites and why!

Please let me know of a movie title where Vincent is Dracula himself- I'd like to check that out. I know he was in plenty horror films, but have never seen that. • REPLY •

Read 2,817 timesBloodRoseTristesseX Vincent Price is the bomb. Absolutely love him. Hail!
Of all the fictional vampires, I have got to choose Angelus/Angel from Buffy. I was in my teens when Buffy was released. So, it really made a huge impact on me. A Vampire, who is doomed to walk this blood-stained earth cursed with the inability to feel a second of pure joy or pleasure.
Basically, a bad-ass vampire with a conscience. I loved the way how the character Angelus/Angel was explored in the hit tv series. I can only hope for the reboot to be exploring this character more fully and with more substance.
Spike is another favourite of mine. He is the more contemporary bad boy Vampire, what with his light blonde hair and to-die-for features. He is witty, snarky and has a microchip in his head.
I cannot wait for the new take on this series! • REPLY •

Read 2,814 timesIllusionaryDarkness My favorite vampire would probably be Brother Silus from the film, 'Perfect Creature'.
I like his ability to not abuse the power he has and to work towards the betterment of both species, humans and vampires. He comes across as wise and knowlegeable.
Admittedly, this is not a vampire film that would be for just anyone. I prefer a more plausable reason for vampires to exist, as opposed to the all too boring, "I've been bitten and I drank the blood of said bloodsucker."
I also like the vision of humans and vampires finding a way to co-habitate. • REPLY •

Read 2,779 timesIllusionaryDarkness I've also always been a fan of Louis from 'The Vampire Chronicles'. He's always been far more interesting to me than Lestat or anyone else in that series.
Louis is a very interesting vampire character. What if a person, made into a vampire, regrets being made into a vampire? All because, they don't want to take human life. Does the conscience remain? I do hope, at some point, someone explores this more in novel or film form. Hopefully, someone with the skill of Anne Rice. • REPLY •

Read 2,509 timesCancer The vampire genre more or less exists today in its current form because of Lestat. Without Lestat there would be no Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel. Without Angel there would be no Twilight or True Blood.
Sure, vampires pre-date Lestat. But it was Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles that brought vampire lore and storytelling more into the main stream. Interview with the Vampire was published in 1976 and The Vampire Lestat was published in 1985. It was her second book (and Lestat) that captured the imagination of readers and forever changed vampires in modern-day pop culture.
The Lost Boys was released in 1987, after the success of The Vampire Lestat. Queen of the Damned followed shortly thereafter in 1988.
Finally, I can tell you, without Lestat there would be no Vampire Rave. • REPLY •

I feel like Lestat did some character flip-flopping so it's difficult for me to choose him as a favorite. I'm not sure what his official deal is.

Maharet, the martriarch of vampire origination and the overseer of her descendants, was a creature I immediately gravitated to. An elder that preferred to keep to herself and to protect those she considered valuable members of her inner circle. The admiration for her loved ones was admirable.
Though she is more docile and in control than her sister Mekare, I would very much name her as a close second. A Gemini, twins of the same coin yet representing two different personalities and moral behaviors. Together they are simply perfect. • REPLY •

I think Dracula is one of those legends that go down as hard to determine if there is truth to it like legends of King Arthur or Atlantis. There is lore proving and disproving it. It's really up to you to decide veracity of it. I don't think he was real but do see the aristocracy and nobles of nights of yore definitely had occultist in their numbers who could very well equate with this popular character. • REPLY •

human who is made a vampire. These traits are in my opinion not supernatural related but biological instead, an
ancient virus maybe man made, or maybe not, which has survived, adapted and mutated down the centuries, giving
human beings exceptional powers. Also, the fact that Selene seems pretty much human and not a monster despite her
bloodlust and her being exposed to sunlight, are crucial for her being my choice as my favorite fictional vampire.

I like these characters particularly as they are all very strong characters with a fundamentally good moral code, however it doesn't tear them apart emotionally being a Vampire as they find a a way to balance the state of being without the hunger taking over their souls if you like.

Read 644 timesSisterLeah I love the freedom of Lestat but not the recklessness. I also have a love for Marius and to a lesser extent that of Armand.
I’m kinda drawn to Mimi in a lesser known film called Kiss of the Damned. Although she too is reckless I admire her spunk. • REPLY •
